Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice. The word Reiki is the combination of two Japanese words that mean divinely guided life force energy: Rei “God’s wisdom or higher power” and Ki which is “life force energy.” Through the use of a technique called “hands on healing,” certified therapists transfer “universal energy” through healing touch to activate the natural healing processes of the person’s body and restore physical and emotional well being to the patient. This energy is based on Qi (Chi), the unseen life force energy that flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If this energy is low, then an individual is more likely to get sick and feel stress. On the other hand, if this energy is high, the individual is more likely to be happy and healthy. Reiki reduces stress, promotes relaxation and promotes healing. The treatment is pleasant and feels like a glowing radiance that flows through and around the patient. Reiki treats the entire person including body, mind, emotions and spirit, creating many beneficial effects including feelings of peace, security and well being. It is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing anyone can use. Moreover, it has been effective in helping almost every known illness or malady with a positive effect. Reiki also works in conjunction with other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. (reiki.org)
Memory issues, confusion, stress, depression, and anxiety are a series of issues that often occur in relation to dementia patients and their care partners. Reiki, otherwise known as a gentle laying of the hands, could give some real help to patients and caregivers alike according to research. Scientific evidence is based on numerous studies examining a variety of types of people and settings which have helped bring Reiki into the mainstream. In recent studies and experiments, it was proven that Reiki and other touch and energy therapies can help people with cognitive impairment. “In one experiment, one group of patients received four weeks of Reiki treatments; a control group received none. The Reiki recipients showed statistically significant increases in mental functioning, memory and behavior after Reiki treatment.” (PsychCentral.com)
