Clinical research shows that children, adolescents, adults, and seniors can benefit from music therapy treatment through its use in physical rehabilitation, pain management, and creative expression. Music therapy is delivered by a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), someone who not only has the skills and training to provide a broad range of music-based interventions, but has learned to assess patients, identify areas of need, recommend goals and objectives, develop treatment plans, and understands the rationale behind the implementation of various types of interventions. Kalani Das, MT-BC provides individual and group music therapy sessions within the greater Los Angeles area for a variety of populations, including older Adults in Assisted Living and Health Care Facilities.

In partnership with the UCSD Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Villa Musica presents The Musical Biographies Project. In this five-session musical biography and scrapbook making multisensorial workshop, the participants will create an individualized music playlist, recount the memories it inspires, and create a scrapbook. A friend or family member will be actively involved in adding to the project by collecting photos, anecdotes, and textiles to give context to the memories. All materials are provided by Villa Musica.

The Resounding Joy Mindful Music program brings the familiarity of favorite songs to seniors enrolled in adult day care programs, assisted living facilities, and memory-care facilities throughout the greater San Diego area. The first and longest-running Resounding Joy outreach program, Mindful Music trains community volunteers who, under the guidance and supervision of board-certified music therapists, deliver Mindful Music services directly to more than 250 San Diego seniors annually. Joy Giver-delivered recreational music is free of charge.
